Aviation maintenance techs enjoy many career options. Technicians held some 306,301 jobs in 2021, and industry growth will require up to 650,000 new technicians through 2040. Starting salaries average $66,00 - $75,000 annually (depending on company and regional offerings) and A&P technicians work for major airlines, aerospace manufacturing, aircraft MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) companies, U.S. Armed Forces, and the Federal Aviation Administration. In the next few years, A&P technicians will be working for new technologies such as remotely piloted/ autonomous flight vehicles, Electric Urban Air Mobility aircraft companies, and Commercial Space tourism. There are also many job opportunities for A&P technicians in other technical/mechanical industries such as amusement park ride inspectors, railroad workers, Elevator/Escalator maintenance, manufacturing equipment maintenance, and many others.
Upon graduation and certification, some successful students can walk right down the flight line to jobs at the local smaller airports and the major airports such as Boston Logan, T.F. Green and Hartford-Bradley Airport. Additionally, jobs are available at locally based major aircraft and aerospace manufacturers such as Sikorsky, Pratt & Whitney, GE and Panasonic.
